Oluwo Of Iwo Begins Rehabilitation Of Roads

 

If there is anything common in the traditional race of the yorubas, it is the way their kings enjoy their lives with exotic cars, mansion and gathering of wives, then leave the primary duties that would benefit the people they are leading for the government to execute.

The case of Oba Abdul, Rasheed Adewale Akanbi (The Oluwo Of Iwo) is different, in his quest to make life more better for the people of his territory, the famous king has commenced the rehabilitating the bad state of the Iwo-Osogbo- Ibadan expressway which has since been abandoned by motorists for years due to its poor condition.

Oluwo made it known the patching of road which was started and supervised by him is part of his agenda to assist his empire in making life easier and better for the people therein. He said:    “When I came out to patch the Iwo/Osogbo road that linked my town to the state capital, my action seemed strange to many people who saw me on the road during the exercise because they felt it was a taboo for the Oba to be patching the road but I do not see it that way because I’m serving my people. I was determined to make that road motorable in the best interest of economy of my town because we cannot afford to be cut off from the state capital. That road is central to the economic development of Iwo”.

The king however showed appreciation to members of the National Union Of Road Transport Worker (NURTW), and the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) for coming out en masse in making the dream a reality. They had choices, they could pass through other roads, but they realized the fact that the bad condition of the road is giving Iwo community adverse economic development.

Oba Akanbi urges fellow traditional rulers not to limit themselves in to high standard of living alone, and ignore the beliefs that limits them approachable as this will help them in rendering more social activities in their respective domains. He further reveals that era of kings living like God is over, he said what should be the priority to any king is endless service to his people.
